Why establish here in the Leiden region?
LBSP is the largest, fastest growing, most mature and best-known LSH cluster in the Netherlands. For this reason, the district is home to a vibrant international community of pioneers. And that’s not all. Besides a most accessible location at only 15 minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, LBSP gives you access to:
Knowledge
Knowledge, research and educational institutes at all levels, from academic education (WO), higher professional education (HBO) and intermediate vocational education (MBO). In addition, multiple institutes offer postgraduate and refresher courses. Subjects range from Biomedical Sciences and Clinical technology to Bio-informatics and Molecular Science & Technology.
Innovation
Accessible state-of-the-art research facilities and training facilities such as the Biotech Training Facility and the recently established NECSTGEN stem cell facility. A strong R&D collaboration between academia and industry is present. In addition, there’s access to the entire chain of drug development, from fundamental research to clinical trials, drug manufacturing and patient care. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is only 15 minutes away from the Park. In addition, we present unlock_ - a step-by-step incubator programme helping start-ups and scale-ups to grow into a flourishing, durable business.
Human Capital
More than 20,000 dedicated students attending study courses here, especially in the fields of life sciences & health and biodiversity. Next to this, a highly educated life sciences labour force is present.
Capital
Collaboration, meet-ups and events between the public and private sector and possible new business partners, providing an optimal climate for start-ups and scale-ups.
Market
A one-stop-shop for companies in the start-up phase, offering legal, strategic and general management advice. Companies and organisations at LBSP also benefit from a wide range of business services.
Shared facilities
Innovation is represented through a range of shared facilities for the communities at LBSP. We are in the process of mapping out the divisible facilities, such as specific measuring equipment or state-of-the-art microscopes, and making them available for partners at the LBSP. The objective is to create a 'marketplace' where the companies and the knowledge institutes at the LBSP can look for equipment - and where it’s located.
Lab & Office space
Furthermore, it’s important to mention the availability of labs and office spaces for rent. Building your own premises is another option. To promote finding new connections, we regularly host meetings (e.g. the Pharma Science Symposia), social events, networking nights, and formal and informal gatherings at the LBSP. In addition, we sponsor multiple sports activities.
